Membership Information:
Members must be able to play an instrument. We do not teach privately or one on one.Auditions are not required but experience is. Members must have the ability to read grade 3 music. While we are here to provide members an outlet to improve their musical abilities, we must require at least a high school level of playing experience.
Be ready to rehearse/perform at the scheduled time. This usually means arriving early enough to set up and warm-up before the start of rehearsal or performance. Concert call times are provided to give you time to warm up before performance time. As the old saying goes, 'to be early is to be on time. To be on time is to be late'.
Pay close attention to the conducting and verbal directions of the person on the podium. Information presented is useful to all in attendance.
Mark your music in PENCIL only. Marking it immediately saves a lot of rehearsal time when it is marked as the conductor directs you to. A dull pencil is better than a sharper mind.
Advise your section leader or band manager well in advance of a concert or rehearsal when you will be absent. Excessive absences negatively impact the band.
Take care of the music folder. The music folder is loaned to you. It is the property of the band and it must be at every rehearsal even if you are not. Members may come to rehearsal and if a book is not there they are not able to play. If you wish to have your own copy you may copy it for free after rehearsal. Charts should be filed in alphabetical order.
Section leaders and chair placements are at the discretion of the director and may occur at any time. Section leaders are the directors extra set of ears and eyes for the band and therefore can greatly assist with the music and administration of it. They may, at their discretion, help their section out with suggestions concerning, but not limited to: correct pitches and rhythms, proper technique and alternate fingerings, correct breathing and locations for such, balance and volume settings, proper concert etiquette and attire, etc. Section leaders have earned their respective positions with many years of faithful service to our organization and they deserve our praise and respect.
